The One You Win by shooting-stetsons (itsxaxmystery/ TheUniverseWillSing)

It seems I’m going through a proper fluffy fics only phase. I’ve been looking back through my bookmarks and seem to only be drawn to the saccharine sweet or generally happy fics. Anyway, here’s another. Sherlock is great in this, somehow in character and amazing with the child. Admittedly, the final outcome does seem a little unlikely to me given the circumstances, but I don’t care. I’m more that happy to don belief suspenders when the occasion calls.

Summary: In which a homeless child follows Sherlock home one day, and he isn’t as heartless as one might think. Established S/J

Prompt:

A homeless child of seven or eight follows Sherlock home one day because Sherlock shoved a chocolate bar at him/her. (Ostensibly, it was because he didn’t want to be distracted by food – not because the child is rail thin.)

Sherlock tells the child that he/she can stay as long as he/she helps with his experiments, but as it turns Sherlock’s “experiments” involves answering questions like “how much bubble bath do you need to get four inches of bubbles over the surface of the water?” and “how much milk can one consume in 28.4 seconds.” When John comes home, he insists upon calling CPS but Sherlock comes up with some excuse not to. (“Come now John, its the middle of the night and the child is sleeping. Surely a night of rest won’t do it any harm. You can meddle tomorrow.”)

The next day, he comes up with a different excuse.

And the day after that he comes up with another one.

And another one.

Until John realizes that Sherlock has basically tricked him into adopting a homeless child.
