Scotland Series by Snorklepie

This is a fine addition to the tradition of top quality novel length fics in the fandom. A post-series 3 fix-it fic (always welcome in my book!), it has a proper old-school mystery, paired with some skeletons from Sherlock’s past and, rather unusually, a prominent OC who is fully fleshed-out. All in all, I love it and am delighted to see it has been turned into a series, because sometimes more really is more.

Author’s Summary for The Edinburgh Problem:

“A nice holiday, just a bit more…murdery. ” John said drily.

“Yes! The best kind of holiday!” Sherlock beamed. “So we won’t get bored!”

After he separates from Mary, John returns to Baker Street. Following a request for help from Sherlock’s cousin Violet, the detective and his blogger take a trip to Edinburgh. John discovers more about the Holmes family and Sherlock than he bargained for, but tries not to run screaming.

The Ichor of Talos series by Nikoshinigami

Incredible! This has taken up every spare moment I’ve had over the last day or so (including lulls at work). Go read it right now, before the scheduled deletion on 1st June 2015. If you see this after that date, you might even be able to buy the print copy since it is being removed to allow for publication.

If, like me, you have loved Niko’s work (Circle of Fifths being my favourite other than this series) then consider supporting the GoFundMe campaign here.

Author’s Summary: “After being convicted of the murder of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John Watson is sentenced to confinement, therapy, and to the constant companionship of a hologram of his victim to aid in his rehabilitation. While John remains uncertain of his guilt, Sherlock is only too happy to engage in the mystery of his own murder to try and discover why he died and how events set his path to cross with the war ravaged stranger he’s now posthumously bound to.”

Star-crossed Series by 221b_hound

If you haven’t read this series, stick with me through the description, because I absolutely promise you that you will be more than pleasantly surprised. This series is fast becoming one of my favourites, ever, in any fandom. Seriously. I’m not even sure I can explain why. It shouldn’t work, it makes no sense, but it’s glorious. Apparently, we have AtlinMerrick to blame for the inspiration, but the execution is just first class. So, here it goes…

Khan (yes, from Star Trek) has a time surge experiment go wrong and ends up in 15th century England, where he meets Richard the Third (yes, that one, though before he is king). I know some of you will look skeptically at this and just want to stop now, but please don’t. Really, don’t. I have no idea how, but this really works, and yes it is a Johnlock series. Look, if you think you could like a series where, what I like to think of as, genuine soul mates meet, looking past the outer shell to see what is underneath and loving it dearly, then this is the series for you. If you want to see people overcoming obstacles, tackling their dark, dark demons and coming out the other side, then this is the series for you. If you like Shakespearean prose done like a pro, then … you get the picture. Just read it. The first fic is just under 10,000 words and it is an absolute gem (though necessarily light on the Johnlock). The second fic is a particular favourite since it brings Moriarty into the fray (And features a very confused Sherlock, always a bonus!). If you don’t like them, blame me!

Author’s summary: Richard, Duke of Gloucester, is 29 years old and needs a break from snide whispers before he just stabs someone. But in his place of sanctuary is a beautiful stranger -Khan Noonien Singh, victim of a time surge after an experiment goes wrong. At first it seems they’ll fight, but then other kinds of duelling seem more appealing.

But these two men are making bad choices, and their fates are written in the stars. Will their souls ever learn to make better choices? How long will it take them to find each other again, and what will they have to learn before they do?

Approx. 26,000 words and counting (eagerly awaiting more!)

Speaker for the Bees by antietamfalls

Well, what else would you expect from this writer. This is glorious. And the touch about bees communication… genius.

Author’s summary: It isn’t always easy assisting a deaf detective. Luckily for John, they make a pretty good team.

Consume, Consume, Explode

Well, I’m welcoming myself back after my work-induced posting hiatus by reccing a rather wonderful PWP. Be warned, this is not for the faint of heart. Whilst it doesn’t really have any more unusual kinks, it definitely has a lot of sex, sex toys, and Sherlock experimenting on (with?) John. Good fun!

Author’s summary: The problem with sex is that Sherlock apparently can’t have it without drowning in it. He and John attempt to work out a solution.

Approx. 9,500 words

ETA: And apparently that was my 200th post! Fitting, I think.

On the Naming of Things by cleflink

Another favourite of mine! BAMF!Angel!John and the power of names. Brilliant.

Author’s Summary: Sherlock may not be one of the angels, but he’s got one on his side all the same. Not that John’s about to tell him this, mind.

Do More Than Belong by cleflink

In honour of the August fic challenge running here, have some cleflink recs! My advice is to basically read every fic listed on AO3 and then check out LJ to make sure you didn’t miss any.

Author’s Summary: There’s a time to hide how powerful his Healing actually is and there’s a time to save Sherlock from bleeding to death. It’s an easy decision, but John’s still not looking forward to Sherlock turning his Sight onto things that John would rather he not know.

AO3

Approx 3000 words.

ETA: Unbelievably happy that cleflink ran with my prompt for a sequel in this series (John testing the limits of his abilities), and the result was The Edge of All the Light You Have. I did not see this coming!

Pas de Deux by prettysailorsoldier

What’s not to love? Rugby player John and ballet dancer Sherlock at school.

Author’s summary: When Sherlock gets banished to the Year 13 corridor, he finds himself with a new locker neighbor: John Watson, the enigmatic captain of the rugby team whom the teachers love and girls swoon at the sight of, but Sherlock isn’t charmed.
Not in the slightest.
